The base of Ice Queen is yerba maté, a naturally caffeinated herb brewed by indigenous communities in central and southern South America. Traditionally, yerba maté is brewed and served in a sun-dried gourd (calabaza) and consumed using a special straw (bombilla). During the ritual, the host fills a maté packed gourd with hot water and serves it to one person, who consumes and passes it back, then refills and serves it to the next in the circle, and so on and so forth. While often used alone, it may also be mixed with citrus peels, mint, and/or made sweet with cane sugar or other sweeteners.
The caffeine present in yerba maté is paired with the alkaloid called theobromine. Theobromine helps the caffeine to absorb slowly and adds a focus clarity. The result of the combination is a balanced energy with no crash. The energy that comes from drinking Yerba maté can be described as a peaceful wakefulness.
Yerba maté has a grassy earthy flavor. In this blend we pair it with flavors of cooling peppermint, sweet licorice root and aromatic lemon.
